 Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s blog chedet.com, was dedicated this evening when the book “Blogging to unblock” was launched, in a simple ceremony in Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya. Articles from his highly successful and sought after blog were compiled in a bi-lingual Berita Publishing special publication.
The objective of the book is to capture his most recent thoughts on many issues, current, historical and perspective, in a media that is documented for generations to come.
Friends, top bloggers and members of the media were invited for the pre-buka puasa event.
This event also mark Tun Dr. Mahathir’s writing since first published in Straits Time (Singapore) in 1947, in an article about how Malay women makes their own choices. His pseudonym then was “C.H.E. DET”, a name he is called by at home since childhood. He maintained the name in his blog, which first came on air 1 May 2008.
By far, chedet.com is the most read political blog in the country. Within 17 days, this blog hit the first million visitor. By far, chedet.com is the most successful, fastest growth and prolific blog in the Malaysian blogosphere scene. In less than five months, it has received more than 7 million visitors.
Tun Dr. Mahathir explained that all the writings in chedet.com are his own thoughts and choice of words and expression, and his staff only assist him to upload it into the blog. Of course, all the original drafts are in his own handwriting and this was used as the cover for his book.
This is not the first book by the Statesman. He also added there are times where his work has been completely plagiarised and passed on by someone else’s. However, he sincerely felt that the credit is not so important as what has been said is more pertinent to be transmitted across. As so, he also said that he does not mind this book being photocopied and passed around as what has been said is more important for more people to understand.
One interesting note is that Tun Dr. Mahathir admitted some of his writing in chedet.com is left open ended. It is because he wanted the readers to think and come up with their own conclusion.
During the Q & A, when asked by blogger and primero journo Dato’ Ahmad A. Talib, Tun Dr. Mahathir explained that he started reading other peoples’ blogs like Rocky’s Bru, Malaysia Today, The Scribe and BigDogDotCom, besides Rantings by MM, before he was inspired to put his thoughts in the blogosphere.
